The Senior Director of World Intellectual Property Service, WIPS Co., Ltd., Yang Qiuming (Allen Yeo) stated that the number of international patent infringement litigation has increased by over 500% in recent five years compare to 20 years ago.

He said, Samsung and Apple's recent lawsuit for example, has prompted many companies to focus more on the importance of the patent to avoid being involved in a patent infringement lawsuit.

After he attend “Malaysia Intellectual Property Entrepreneurship – Patent Map Seminar,” mentioned that Malaysian small and medium sized enterprises have not take into account the advantage of using patent information.

He noted that government agencies and companies need to let employees understand what patent is and encourage them to learn more about this field.  He said, in addition to enterprise companies, university research institutes also should appreciate the importance of patent information to avoid overlapping research works before and during the R&D process.  (Sinchew Daily).

Associate Professor of National University of Singapore (Intellectual Property Management and Analysis), Dr. Yang Qiuming (Allen Yeo), pointed out that the number of international patent infringement lawsuit increased by over 500 percent in the past five years compared to the past 20 years.
 

Apple and Samsung launched a large number of patents and other intellectual property infringement lawsuit. He stated that this case made global enterprises understand the importance of patents and intellectual property rights.
 

Today, he attended the patent map seminar organized by the Federation of Malaysia Intellectual Property entrepreneurship.  Yang said, the Malaysian SMEs and large enterprises, and even about 80% of SMEs in Singapore certainly understand the importance of patent.  However, they ignore the importance of patent information analysis which helps to understand the value of innovation and technology, and to estimate competitors’ technology.
 

Yang said, successful companies use patent strategies and patent information analysis, in order to make more informed decisions. "By analyzing the patent information, researchers would at least know the situation of the market and the latest technology stages."

He also noted that government agencies and companies need to let employees understand what patent is and encourage them to learn more about this field. (Nanyang Business News).
