White Day? Patented Candies

Many Asian countries celebrate ‘White Day’ on March 13th. Wikipedia notes that White Day was invented by the Japanese National Confectionary Industry Association in 1978 as an “answer day” to Valentine’s Day on the grounds that men should pay back the women who gave them chocolate (Wikipedia).

Candy is a confection made from a concentrated solution of sugar in water, to which flavorings and colorants are added.  According to Wikipedia , the word candy’s origin came from Persian word Qand, “cane sugar.”
