Samsung increases spending on U.S. lobbyists

According to Bloomberg, Samsung spent a record amount of money on Washington, D.C. lobbyists.  Bloomberg reported that Samsung’s spending on lobbyists to $900,000 last year from $150,000 in 2011.  Samsung’s issues included intellectual property infringement and telecommunications infrastructure.

As US consumers use Samsung products at a growing rate, the company faces more competition from US tech companies and higher potential for legal battles, CNET noted. However, their spending is small compared with some rivals.  Bloomberg quoted, Apple spent $2 million on U.S. lobbying last year, Sony spent $3.3 million, Google spent $18.2 million, and Facebook Inc. spent $4 million according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington group that tracks lobbying.
