EFF, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, is
supporting for two blogs sued by a "copyright troll" law firm, EFF
announced on its website.
Duffy and his law firm Prenda Law LLC are
targeting the articles with critical thinking on the blogs, FrightCopyrightTrolls
and DieTrollDie which are maintained by anonymous authors. They filed two
defamation lawsuits last month claiming that the bloggers and their commenters
defamed Duffy and his firm. Mitch Stolz, EFF Staff Attorney, said "These
lawsuits are a blatant attempt to abuse the legal process to punish critics,”
"Critics of the copyright troll
business model have the right to speak anonymously without their identities
being exposed to the trolls," said Kurt Opsahl, EFF Senior Staff Attorney.
"These sweeping subpoenas create a chilling effect among those who have
spoken out against Prenda."
