A newspaper association in US including New
York Times is supporting the Associated Press (AP) for a copyright lawsuit
against an online media monitoring company, Meltwater, AP announced. According
to AP, the newspaper companies are New York Times Co., Advanced Publication
Inc., Gannett Co., McClatchy Co., the Newspaper Association of America and
BurrellesLuce. The companies filed an amicus brief in support on 25th
Feb.
AP sued Meltwater for copying AP’s contents
and selling to their clients without permission and licensing fees in Feb 2012.
Maura Malone, acting general counsel of AP, said that AP is very pleased to have
support on their site.
Associated Press is an American news agency
organized as a New York not-for-profit corporation, and formed in 1846. Meltwater
was founded in 2001 in Oslo, Norway. According to the company's website, it has
more than 800 employees working in 55 offices around the world, news.yahoo.com
wrote.
