Film studios are targeting mobile apps that
use images and film clips without their permissions, Reuters reported.
Five studios (Walt Disney Co's Marvel unit,
Sony Corp, Viacom Inc's Paramount, and News Corp's Twentieth Century Fox and
Warner) have sent a “take down” notice to the biggest search engine Googld to
remove all mobile applications. Google removed the app right after the notice
to protect their intellectual property.
The mobile apps contained images and
movie titles such as "Clash of the Titans," "Spiderman,"
and "Green Lantern" and TV shows like "Glee" and
"Gossip Girl." Reggie Pierce, head of IP Lasso, told
Reuters: "With the rise of the second screen comes a new band of villains
who pose a serious threat to the entertainment industry's move to mobile."
