US school considers copyrights of student and teacher's work

pgcps.org
A school in the US state of Washington, Prince George’s County school, is considering ownership of work created by staff and students for school. It would be pictures of students, lesson plans organized by a teacher and so on. Washingtonpost.com report that school systems in the Washington region have use of copyrighted materials policies. But there are no rules in any schools in the Washington that allow ownership of students’ works or teachers’ lesson plans.

There are many objected opinions about this policy. David Cahn, an education activist, called the policy affectin the students “immoral” and it is exploiting the students.
Peter Jaszi, a law professor, also called it “sufficiently extreme.” He also said that the policy would send wrong message to students.

David Rein, a lawyer and adjunct law professor who teaches intellectual property at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, told washingtonpost that he had never heard of a local school board a policy to hold the copyright for a student’s and teacher’s work. And if the policy is approved, it will be the only school which has ownership of work done by students and teachers.
