Facebook will have to protect its
‘Timeline' in April against Timelines.com. Timelines Inc., a small local
company in Chicago, sued Facebook and claimed that it infringed on their
trademark. This claim just came out and the case will be going to trial on
April 22, NBC Chicago reported.

Timelines.com claimed Facebook’s timeline
to describe its profiles would “cripple” its business in the original filing.
Then Facebook brought a counter action and said that the term “timelines” is
generic so it is not enough to be a trademark.
Chicagotribune.com also wrote about this
trademark issue. Facebook describes "Timeline" as a tool that
"allows people to organize and display the events and activities that
matter most to them, enabling them to curate their memories in a searchable
personal narrative that is organized chronologically."
The Chicago-based Timelines is a Web site
that enables the public to record and share history. Its lawsuit said that it
first applied for the Timelines mark in May 2008, chicagotribune.com added.
