Interesting and Creative Advertising Idea

 Interesting and Creative Advertising Idea!

1. advertiser: otrivin

Two winners are gripping bunch of flowers in their hands and crying. People may guess they are crying for joy at a victory. Do you think that is it? To tell the truth, you can catch a real reason from the bottom right corner.  Advertiser, otrivin, are saying that this product  will help people with flower allergy.

2. advertiser: bauschlomb

Second advertisement has also a reversal story. It seems like an advertisement of glasses but it isn't. Actually, this is advertising for Contact lenses. Advertiser, Bauschlomb, is saying that age of glasses is over as long as people wear Basuchlomb lenses. In other words, people don't need to wear glasses on anymore because these contact lenses are enough. The case is actually a coffin not a case for glasses.

3. advertiser: Ponteio

If you are a person who is observant, you could see children crouching in front of doors in these pictures. This advertising campaign gives us a message that we should pay better attention to people out of range of our vision. This campaign has really good intention since it gives us chance to have a time for thinking about poor people.

Designing Out Crime_Halloween special (2)

Read Designing Out Crime_Halloween Special (1) first.

It starts from the small things
UK Home Office organized a project called Designing Out Crime Association (DOCA) in 2007.  Through this project, the government was able to reduce the incidence of crimes. The project covered ‘crime out’ design of products, services, communications and environments that are appropriate in the society.

© Design Council of UK | Safer Pint Glass
This safer pint glass is designed to reduce the injuries caused by glassing attacks. According to Design Council of UK, “Alcohol related violence has fallen by 33% since 1997, yet 87,000 violent incidents involving glassware remain each year, which can badly injure victims and disrupt their families and communities.  The design of safer pint glass prevents serious accidents from drinking.  The safer pint glass has a thin transparent coating of bio-resin on the inside.  It makes glass stronger, and if the glass breaks, the coating film binds dangerous shards together. Hence,  it reduces the likelihood of getting injured. It is impossible to prevent drunken people from swinging the beer glass, but it is possible to prevent the possible injuries caused by the action.

© Dan-Form | Stop Thief Chair
According to the British Crime Survey, pick pocketing in England and Wales has risen by 25% during 2007 and 2008. Unattended bag on the back of a chair in the public is easy target for the thieves because it can be easily lifted or dipped into. To prevent such bag theft and pick pocketing, restaurants, cafes and pubs have devised a range of anti-theft chairs licensed to Dan-Form. “The Stop Thief Chair” features rounded back that discourages users from hanging bags over the chairs. Instead, it encourages them to place bag straps into the slot on the front of the chair to keep personal belongings more secure. With this chair, people can relax in public during the Halloween night out.

ATM-related crimes have become a major issue.   Such crimes include identity theft, physical attacks or robbery. People are not fully aware of how to protect themselves and personal belongings against crimes in front of ATM machines. There is a design solution for this problem.  The solution uses a common element - bike -to take advantage of its physicality. The design of bike stand located around ATM machines naturally works as a  shield against the crimes happening around cash points.

Design as a security
Halloween is coming soon. It is hard to predict or prevent crimes.  However, small changes prevent potential crimes.  This is the biggest influence of designing. Wishing you a happy and safe Halloween day!!

On October 23rd, C-Net reported that USPTO invalidated Apple’s patent used in victory over Samsung.  This is not a final action, but USPTO nixed that all 20 claims in Apple’s rubber-banding patent.  Even though the result is not a final decision of USPTO, this is remarkable because the rubber-banding patent is the most important key patent that influenced Apple’s landmark victory in San Jose, California in late August.  Check out the full article here.

As we posted on our blog, Korean major Kimchi companies led to the patent suit.  On October 24th, Korean Edaily reported that Kimchi maker Chonggajib’s holding company Daesang FNF filed a lawsuit against CJ, the holding company of Hasunjung Kimchi. According to the report, Chonggajib insisted that Hasunjung violated their glutinous rice called ‘Alpha glutinous rice’ patent which keeps the color and gloss of Kimchi during the manufacturing process.  Check out the original article here.

On October 25th, AFP reported that Dutch court rejected a suit brought by Apple claiming that Samsung had infringed its patent.  The context of the Apple’s patents is multi-touch technique when touch screens can or cannot identify simultaneous multiple touches. Check out the detailed information here

Korean money today reported on 26th, after processing semiconductor Equipment Company, Hanmi semiconductor has won several technology leakages and patent lawsuits against competitors. Google Fails To AdWords Trademark Infringement Claims Against Cybersitter

Google makes a lot of money selling AdWords ads activated by third party trademarks. Google AdWords is Google's main advertising product and main revenue source.

Recently Google got sued by Cybersitter, a company sells software to block adult content. The company sued by Google for alleged trademark infringement on AdWords.

The issue was Net Nanny’s keywords and its ads sentence ‘Cybersitter’ for their Adwords ads. Net Nanny paid for the keywords to shown on the web for users who search for ‘Cybersitter’. Cybersitter said that it is a trademark infringement to use the company name for advertising and Google should  have not allowed Net Nanny’s Advertisement with this word. Cybersitter also added Net Nanny ad included the statement, "Protect your child with #1 rated Cybersitter software."

Competition of Korean Kimchi companies led to the patent suit

Competition of Korean Kimchi companies led to the patent suit

Chongga and Hasunjung, Korean Top rival Kimchi companies, have been dueled over market share. And eventually this led to the patent suit. According to the press, Daesang FNF owning Chongga Kimchi brand insisted that CJ cheiljedang violates their own patent related with a manufacturing process with glutinous rice.

For this reason, Daesang FNF have asked for compensation for damage fee for use of patent. However, CJ has shown no response since they didn't received a petition yet.

Actually, the industry are considering this suit as a competition for market share instead of compensation for technical infregement. We are able to determine their steps past.

CJ took over the business of Hasunjung 2 month after Daesang FNF, the number one spot in its field of business, bought Jongga which was owned by Doosan Group in 2006.

                                ▲  www.flickr.com  ∥ triwit

Since then, both companies have exerted great efforts to take over small business. And also the facts, CJ's sales have incresed and Food researchers of Daesang FNF selected themselves out to CJ, have affected this situation.

Like Samesung and Apple, Food industry are using patent suit as a method to hold each other in check. All of these things accounts, I doubt how the current patent institution goes well.

Orange, Green, Purple, and Black colors and Jack-o-lanterns will be everywhere, and people will have wicked Halloween costumes only for the day of October 31st.  Kids will occupy the mall and towns and shout out “Trick or Treat.” Bars and restaurants in the downtown will be full of young adults who want to enjoy the crazy Halloween night.  Extended hour service of Metro and other public transportations tempt more people to come out on the street.  Police officers are everywhere, but accidents always happen on the night of Halloween.

American Criminologist James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling introduced Broken Windows Theory in 1982. This criminal psychology theory explains neglecting broken windows will lead to bigger crimes such as theft or murders. It directly shows how small or minor things affect our environments and society. The theory also claims that people easily commit crime on the day of Halloween because people create dangerous atmosphere on that night.

What is the CPTED?

The CPTED is the acronym of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.  This is the Urban Design theory that claims appropriate urban design, planning and construction can reduce chances of crime within the area. , CPTED prevents crime by predicting criminal's mentality and behavior in advance and applying Urban Design Theory in the area of a crime ridden districts and facilities. The Wikipedia states that the concept of CPTED was originally formulated by criminologist C.Ray Jeffery. Here is a brief history of CPTED from Wikipedia. The study of CPTED has developed and applied in public facilities, schools, and towns since 1970s in the U.S.

Diploma Project

The town which adopted CPTED concept is different from pre-existing closed town.  The biggest feature of CPTED town is its openness and natural design that  enable its residents to communicate with each other.  Therefore,  they quickly notice outsiders and control their community .  To prevent possible crimes, they can also limit the access to the gate,  playground area or park side.  In addition, they can plant needle leaf trees instead of broad leaf trees to secure the view.

Korean Etnews reported on October 20th that Intel’s usage of Korean Government PCT service has been increased.  It can be interpreted as the assessment capability of Korean government is credible compare to other countries.  However, it should be interpreted as the fact that competition with Korean companies in semiconductor market has been intensified.  Etnews also mentioned the price of PCT international research in Korea is 1,101 dollars which is lower than the U.S. (2,080 dollars) and EU (2,426 dollars).  Check out the detailed information here.

Cake Server, don't mess up with your cake!

The cake server that makes your table keep clean!

There is a Korea TV show program named ‘Man's Qualification.’ About a year ago, the casts showed some products they invented in their own way. One of those, introduced by Korean famous reporter Jeon Hyun-moo, was a knife that can be bent in various angles.
After the show was aired, people found out the similar knife with a little bit different function. Some people doubted it was not a his original idea. Let's check how different they are.

▲ mip-sang knife from KBS TV show,  Man's Qualification
▲cake server magisso.com

The point of the reporter's knife was that people can cut cakes in every size they want with adjustable knife blade. And the 'cake server', which has already been selling online shops, is more focused on cutting and moving at the same time without messing around the plate and table.
