On October 2nd, The Korea Times reported an article about Samsung’s next step against Apple in China. The article said that Samsung Electronics has become more “aggressive about strengthening its presence in China by broadening its partnership with local companies and tightening its relationship with local government officials.” The Korea Times also quoted a Samsung executive,“our activities in China aren’t about Apple, but yes, of course we want to be better positioned should the legal dispute in China.” Check out the new strategy of Samsung in China here.
On October 4th, Amore Pacific filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District court against LG Life Care patent infringement about two cosmetic products according to Korean Kukmin News. The claimed products are LG Life Care’s ‘Moist Cushion Foundation’ and ‘Mineral Water BB Cushion.’ Amore Pacific stated that LG Life Care infringed viscosity controlling UV sunscreen technology and released products last August. Asia One reported on October 4th, Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) have signed a MOU on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot, as well as a MOU on comprehensive Intellectual Property cooperation. The article noted both MOU will establish an overarching framework that aims to improve work efficiency and patent quality through cooperation between the two IP offices. Check out the details here.
On October 5th, Korean e2 news reported the Office of Waterworks of Busan registered the Busan city tap water trademark, ‘Soonsu 365 (Pure 365).’ According to the city office, the city will produce and sell bottled tap water named ‘Soonsu.’ It is followed by the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act Amendment. Korean Etnews delivered an event announcement on October 5th. The article announced that KIPO and Korean Trademark and Design Association will host a forum, ‘2012 Seoul International Trademark Forum’ on October 19th, 2012.
