On October 7, 2020, Sharp in Japan announced that they’ve signed a license agreement for standard essential patents related to wireless communication, including LTE, with Daimler AG, Germany.

Japan's Sharp filed a lawsuit against Daimler in the Munich District Court for infringement of its 1) LTE-related patent against Daimler, 2) It was determined that the vehicle was infringing on Sharp's patent rights. Meanwhile, Daimler argued that Sharp's exercise of rights was contrary to the 3) FRAND Declaration, but the court refused to admit these claims and ordered a sale ban and raised Sharp's hand.

Through an official report from Sharp, this license agreement complements the license agreement already concluded between Sharp and parts makers with respect to most of Daimler's automotive products. Announced that it was terminated by reconciliation.

Sharp is carrying out LTE standard essential patent licenses for a number of leading companies, and it is affirmed that it will continue to sign license agreements on 'fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory' terms.

On October 14, 2020, POSCO Korea held a technology sharing event to strengthen technological competitiveness of SMEs in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

POSCO has been participating in the technology sharing project promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy since 2017. Technology sharing event is a project in which large companies disclose unused technologies and transfer them to small and medium-sized companies in need thereof free of charge. POSCO granted non-exclusive licenses for 83 patents to 24 companies in 2017, and set exclusive licenses for a total of 141 patents to 41 companies in 2019.

At the 2020 technology sharing event, POSCO disclosed 1,350 patents in the field of green, digital, and technology localization, and transferred a total of 200 patented technologies to 88 SMEs for free. The patents provided were 92 green fields such as charging technology for electric vehicles, 32 digital fields such as ultrasonic sensors to prevent foreign substances adhesion, and 76 technical localization fields such as underwater cleaning robots. POSCO announced that it will not only provide technology, but also provide various follow-up support such as technical guidance and commercialization consulting.

 Meanwhile, POSCO signed a “POSCO Technology Sharing Business Agreement” with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to establish a cooperation system for technology sharing between the Ministry of Industry and POSCO group.
