According to ETnews Korea, ETRI is going to adopt ‘Patent Coordinator System.’  ETRI announced that they will train ‘Patent coordinators’ who will focus exclusively on Intellectual Property for strengthening patent management. The coordinators will take the role that performing evaluation of inventions throughout the institution, managing IP by research tasks and establishing the standard patent strategy.  ETRI has mentioned that they are adopting this system and training coordinators because they are strictly short of IP professionals compare to IP creating scale of each researchers in the institute. ETRI toped this year and last year’s list of US Patent Board list.  In practice, ETRI’s US patent granted is 703 cases which is much more than MIT’s 257 cases and Caltech’s 415 cases.  Here is ETnews' original article.

Kporea Yonhap News Agency reported that North Korea applied two cases of international patent application last year.  On April 30th, American Radio Free Asia quoted WIPO’s database.  North Korea applied the patent titled ‘Individual Instruction System Using Publicized Materials’ in March 2012 and applied another patent titled ‘Milk Manufacturing Method Using Animal Bones’ in September 2012.  After this, North Korea did not apply new international patent until now.  North Korea applied total 27 international patent applications since 1993. Starting with fingerprint verification technology, North Korea applied 2 or 3 cases yearly for last 20 years. However the number is insignificant compare to South Korea which applies 700 cases of international patents in one month. Click here for the detaield infomartion from Yonhap News Agency.
