Holiday Gift Ideas 2012

Christmas is coming.  Are you ready to get stocking stuffers and Christmas Presents for you loved ones? You might need scurrying around looking for unique gifts for your co-workers, relatives and families.  Why don’t you purchase some eco-friend items for your Holiday gifts list?  You can give meaningful gifts to your loved ones and save the earth at the same time. Here are some ‘green’ and 'sustainable' ideas for your holiday gifts.

Moshi is the electronics design brand store located in California, USA.  The store emphasizes the environmental responsibility and aware of environmental impacts.  Moshi uses recycled materials for packaging and boxing.  Moshi’s Galaxy S III’s snap hard case ‘iGlaze’ packed with 100% recyclable package which printed with soy ink.  Moshi adhere to California’s Proposition 65 and RoHS standards which were enacted to eliminate the use of hazardous substances during production.

Korean Fashion Glasses Frame brand ‘Gentle Monster’ showed used coffee bean sacks and harmless coating metals as frame packages.  Each of this ‘Future Vintage’ concept package has different patterns because of recycled coffee bean sacks from various places.  Gucci and Safilo also introduced new sustainable packages.  Their package has designed to reduce materials, exclusively use FSC (Forest stewardship council) Certified paper and to be 100% recyclable.

Sportswear and Sneaker brand PUMA introduced ‘Clever Little Bag’ project in 2010. Boxes contribute to millions of tons of waste a year.  By providing structure to a cardboard sheet, the bag uses 65% less cardboard than the standard shoe box, has not laminated printing, no tissue paper, takes up less space and weighs less in shipping, and replaces the plastic retail bag. Also the bag is non-woven, stitched with heat.  It protects the shoes from dust and dirt in the warehouse and during whipping.  With this project, PUMA consumed approximately 8,500 tons less paper and saved 20 million Mega joules of electricity, 1 million liters less fuel oil, and 1milllion liters of water.

Cosmetic brand Pangea Organics always provide the eco packaging that is plantable and turns into Basil. In 2008, Pangea Organics introduced holiday gift box actually grows a spruce tree.

UK’s organic handmade cosmetic brand Lush avoids the product packaging.  Lush uses minimum packaging for their products and uses 90% recyclable ingredients. Since 2011, Lush has been used pack of ‘Cornboys’ than tissue papers. ‘Cornboy’ is biodegradable wrapping buffer which is degradable in the water.  ‘Cornboy’ is made from simple ingredients; corn starch and food coloring.
