WIPS Designated as Official Partner for the WIPO ASEAN IP Register

 

WIPS has been officially designated as a private-sector partner for the WIPO ASEAN IP Register, an initiative jointly managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC).

    WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization): A specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for establishing and managing global standards for intellectual property and patent rights.

  ASEAN IP Register: A consolidated regional database that enables integrated searches for IP registration information—including patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications—across the 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The platform was jointly developed and launched by ASEAN and WIPO in 2023.

Strengthening Regional IP Infrastructure and Examination Capabilities

This partnership initiative aims to expand IP data accessibility across ASEAN member states and reinforce the professional capacity of patent examiners in each jurisdiction. To support these objectives, WIPO and AWGIPC conducted a rigorous evaluation of global private IP service providers capable of supplying advanced technologies and systems directly utilized by patent examiners.

As a result, WIPS was selected as an official global partner alongside Patsnap and Questel.

Searching for Southeast Asian IP data has traditionally presented challenges for global researchers due to disparate data quality standards and delayed updates among individual national offices. With the ASEAN region rapidly emerging as a global innovation hub-driven by dynamic demographics and a fast-growing digital economy-securing reliable and timely IP intelligence has become more crucial than ever.

Through this official collaboration, WIPS will receive structured, official, and real-time IP data feeds directly from ASEAN national patent officies. This integration will enable WIPS users to leverage an expanded and highly precise dataset when performing comprehensive Asian and global IP searches.

"Beyond Borders, Meeting Through Art" — WIPS Hosts a Special Exhibition for Artists with Developmental Disabilities!

 

From May 11th, for 22 wonderful days, City Hall Station on Daejeon Metro Line1 was filled with warmth and creativity. WIPS hosted a very special art exhibition titled "Beyond Borders, Meeting through Art," featuring incredibly talented artists with developmental disabilities. 

The event area inside the station was transformed by colorful, vibrant artworks, creating a cozy resting spot for busy commuters looking for a little comfort in their daily lives.

 Right in the middle of the exhibition, we had a deeply meaningful gathering that made the event even more unforgettable. We invited the wonderful artists—the real stars of the show—along with their beautiful families, for a heartwarming celebration.

"Welcome to the WIPS Family!"

 WIPS held this special ceremony to express our deepest gratitude to the artists whose creative journeys we’ve been honored to support, and to proudly celebrate them as official members of our team. We were so blessed to have three amazing artists—Yeon, Ho-seok, Han, Seong-beom, and Lee, Sang-min—grace the event with their presence.

 Opening the ceremony, Choi, Ji-min, the CEO of WIPS, shared a warm welcome:

"We hope these beautiful artworks, filled with our artists' unique thoughts and inspirations, bring comfort to many citizens. We put our hearts into planning this special gathering to thank the artists for the incredible passion they’ve shown."

 To honor the artistic passion and hard work they’ve poured into their craft, WIPS presented each artist with a specially crafted commemorative plaque and our sincerest cheers.

 We also personally placed official company ID badges around their necks so they could truly feel the pride of being part of the WIPS family. Seeing the bright, radiant smiles on their faces as they looked at their own names and photos on their badges was the greatest gift any of us could have asked for.

After the ceremony, the artists and their families walked through the exhibition together, admiring the pieces and sharing sweet conversations. Seeing their children stand proudly before the public as professional artists and recognized members of a company brought tears of joy and deep emotion to the parents' eyes.

"WIPS has been such a huge source of strength for us. Seeing my child recognized as a true member of a company touches my heart deeply as a parent," one of the guardians shared emotionally.

The pure passion woven into each piece shone even brighter because it met the public in a bustling subway station. Designed so that busy citizens could naturally enjoy art and connect with the artists' worlds on their daily commutes, the exhibition received an enthusiastic response, serving as a peaceful sanctuary for everyone who passed by.

On March 17, 2026, WIPS was honored with the “Outstanding Invention Evaluation Institution 2025” Award presented by the President of the Korea Invention Promotion Association.

What is an “Outstanding Invention Evaluation Institution”?

An Outstanding Invention Evaluation Institution is a certified organization authorized to objectively assess the technical excellence, business feasibility, and economic value of inventions, and to quantify that value in the form of ratings or monetary figures.

In other words, it is an officially recognized expert institution that goes beyond simple analysis and is authorized by the government to issue a “technology report card” for innovations.

PATINEX 2022

 

The International PATent INformation Expo (PATINEX) 2022, was held at the Korea Science and Technology Center on Sept1-2.

The event was held under the title of “IP Data, a Pioneer leading the New Digital Era”,

It was a great time to meet the new products of intellectual property service and its providers and learn how to use patent information that will lead the trend in the digital age in earnest.

 At this event, WIPS introduced a new product, “WIPS PRISM,” which is AI patent classifier, improves the efficiency of patent classification by utilizing deep learning algorithms. In addition, various events were held together.

On the second day, JO Minji, a patent attorney at WIPS, gave a presentation on the introduction of WIPS PRISM under the title, “The beginning of strategy to secure original technology, WIPS PRISM.” It is a revolutionary patent classification service that can classify 50,000 cases in just 30 minutes with one time training. I believe it was a good news for those who have been tired of patent classification work for a long time.

AI Patent Classifier III, WIPS PRISM

WIPS' AI Classifier has been officially launched.

AI Patent Classifier II , How it works with AI

 

In the last issue #13, we introduced WIPS' new product, AI patent classifier.

The classification criteria for classifying patent differ depending on the purpose of the analysis, and we have found that it is very important to obtain a result that meets the purpose. We introduced that the WIPS’ AI ​​patent automatic classifier is a product that generates a classification engine optimized for the user's criteria by learning the user's correct answer data using 5 specialized AI algorithms.

Since the introduction of the classifier was released, we’ve received many inquiries about the product and how it works. This time, more information is open.

 The AI ​​patent classifier developed by WIPS is an application that classifies unclassified patent documents in accordance with the user-defined criteria.

The principle of the product in brief,

①     The combination of 5 algorithms creates ②70 untrained models (INDUCER), and ③ inputs 3 data types and it makes ④ 210 individual classification models.

From the 210 classified models, ⑤ 15 final models are selected based on the measured values, ⑥and the final best model is determined by applying 3 ensemble types.

This is a user-customized classification engine created by training the input data. Here, ‘training (also learning)’ refers to the process of creating a classification model by applying the user-defined correct answer data to the inducer.

The classification engine created through the above process appears on the screen as shown above. Now just upload the data you need to classify here.

Unclassified data is automatically classified with the user's criteria through an inference process in the created classifier.

Individual engines created by the inference process can be used continuously when the relevant patents are updated that meet the same purpose and criteria. For example, if there is a classification engine created to analyze the structure of a robot vacuum cleaner, automatic classifying becomes possible within a short period of time when the technology of the suction part or control of the robot cleaner is filed.

WIPS New Product, "A.I Patent Classifier"

 

We’d like to introduce “ A.I Patent Classifier “ which WIPS has newly launched in 2022.

  A.I patent classifier is a patent document automatic classifier. As bigdata, a huge amount of patents are filed around the world every year. Because patent describes various technologies and includes both structured and unstructured data, there are many difficulties in collecting and researching patent information. In general, patent research requires a search query in a specific technical field to remove noise and classify the collected patents. Since this process is mostly done manually by reading and classifying the technology, it takes a lot of time and money, and requires so much energy. A lot of efforts have been made in the past to automate the classification of patent documents in various ways, but to no avail. But now, A.I technology have made surprising advances.

  WIPS has been conducting professional A.I R&D on patent data for a long time, and has now released A.I patent classifier this year with specialized technology and data for patent literature.

  In patent research and analysis, denoising (which means filtering patents that is not fit the analyzing purpose) and classifying works are very essential but costs a lot and time-consuming because  most of it is done by hand. It is really hard work. Although we have IPC, IPC information does not respond to the rapidly changing technology system and is not suitable for use as a technology classification system for patent analysis because it is submitted directly by the applicant. Moreover, in the field of new technology, it is difficult to find suitable experts, and the criteria for classification are different depending on the analyst. 

  Patent classification requires prior classification of patent documents so that suitable results for the purpose of patent analysis can be derived. Even the same technology, classification is different depending on purpose of structure, method, etc. It makes more difficult to produce classifier products by the reason that a single classification criterion for a particular technology can’t be defined.

 WIPS' A.I patent classifier is a customized classification that is trained with the user's correct answer data. So it’s a unique classifier for the user (or company) only.

  It learns user’s correct data using 5 specialized AI algorithms and generates a classification engine which is best fit for the user’s data. Companies with internal classification criteria can be more tailored to this services. It enables consistent, short-time processing of review, denoising, and classifying that must be repeated over and over again.

The inference result provides three categories per patent and the probability of each inference result. Numerous tests have confirmed over 90% accuracy.

  Based on the classified patents worked by A.I patent classifier, you can identify trends by technology field and establish R&D strategies. In addition, you can establish a response strategy by analyzing the main technologies of competitors and identifying whitespaces.
