We will touch on the latest Korean IP news headlines from WIPS Global blog.

Korea Money Today reported that Samsung Display and LG Display are focusing on securing OLED experts and Patent experts while they are in intensified Patent litigation related to AMOLED.  Samsung Display OLED department is recruiting 5 to 7 year-experienced engineers who have master above degree of electronics and electric wave engineering.  The areas of recruitment are electromagnetic waves, high speed digital signal processing design qualification and infrastructure.  Samsung Display is vigorously pushing forward huge OLED TV’s mass production which requires high speed data handling technologies.  Samsung Display put a quote on their job application provided, ‘Please be cautious on violation of trade secret.’  It can be interpreted Samsung is conscious of LG Display because they are in progression of litigation due to displace workers.  On the other hand, LG Display is recruiting more patent lawyers.  LG Display Human Resource center accepted job applications last week.  LG Display mentioned that “We are hiring Patent experts due to intensified patent competitiveness in the global market. Also we are short patent lawyers compare to other competitors in the market.” Click here the Korean article.
 
Korean MK News reported that Korean government wants to bring in Korean Bayh-Dole Act.  Around 23,000 patents and technologies owned by Government-funded research Institutes will be transferred to small and medium businesses if the action introduced. The Bayh-Dole Act is US legislation which adopted in 1980.  It gave US universities, small businesses and non-profits intellectual property control of their inventions and other intellectual property that resulted from such funding.  It permitted a universities, small businesses, or non-profit institution to elect to pursue ownership of an invention in preference to the government.  According to Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Government Funded Research Institutes own around 23,028 patents in 2011.  The enforcement of Korean Bayh-Dole Act will accelerate technical commercialization between government-funded research institutes and small and medium businesses.  Original Article here.
