Korean MK News reported that Korean government wants to bring in Korean
Bayh-Dole Act. Around 23,000 patents and
technologies owned by Government-funded research Institutes will be transferred
to small and medium businesses if the action introduced. The Bayh-Dole Act is
US legislation which adopted in 1980. It
gave US universities, small businesses and non-profits intellectual property
control of their inventions and other intellectual property that resulted from
such funding. It permitted a
universities, small businesses, or non-profit institution to elect to pursue
ownership of an invention in preference to the government. According to Korean Ministry of Knowledge
Economy, Government Funded Research Institutes own around 23,028 patents in
2011. The enforcement of Korean
Bayh-Dole Act will accelerate technical commercialization between government-funded
research institutes and small and medium businesses. Original Article here.
