US Harrity Analytics Announces Top 300 List of Patent Registrations in 2022
Harrity Analytics has published a list of the Top 300 Patent Holders that have been jointly researched with the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) of the United States every year. The annual ranking is the top 300 companies, organizations, and universities in the patent field based on the total number of US patents registered in the past 12 months.
Looking at the main contents, IBM maintained the first place with the most patents registered in the United States in 2021 and 2020, despite a significant decrease in the total number of patents due to the spin-off of Kyndryl, and Samsung Electronics (8,517) in second place, LG (4,388) in 3rd , Cannon (3,400) in 4th , and Huawei (2,955) in 5th .
· The rankings of TSMC, Qualcomm, and Micron increased year-on-year, while those of Microsoft and Raytheon Technology fell.
· The biggest change in this ranking is that the total number of patents acquired by 300 patented companies decreased by 22,358 in 2021 compared to 2020.

WTR is a British IP specialized media founded in 2002. Since 2017, they’ve been conducting expert evaluation and self-information collection on 16 indicators in three areas: online service capacity of each country's patent office, trademark protection and utilization policy, and user communication effort.
· In this evaluation conducted for the patent offices of the top 60 countries with trademark applications in 2020, Singapore, which ranked first in the previous year, ranked 3rd, the UK 4th, Japan 12th, and the United States 13th.
· KIPO ranked first in the field of online service capabilities such as convenience of use, electronic filing service, and search system using artificial intelligence (AI), up five steps from the previous year (6th place). In addition, in the field of user communication effort, which measures the degree of communication with stakeholders, the ranking increased significantly, taking first place this year from 23rd in the previous year.
· KIPO is striving to improve examination quality by developing its own artificial intelligence-based trademark image search system for examiners. By continuously improving the electronic application system, it was found that 98% of trademark applications were filed online in 2021.
· In addition, as the non-face-to-face daily life by COVID-19 continues, online counterfeit products has increased. KIPO has been strengthened on-line and offline crackdowns to prevent it.
