Samsung has 30,461 US granted patents

According to Samsung Electronics’ sustainability report, Samsung granted 30,461 patents including 378 design patents by USPTO.   That is the second largest number after IBM in the US. 

Samsung has total 102,995 patents since the company started applies to USPTO in1984.  Last year, Samsung has granted 6,166 patents by KIPO and 11,973 patents by patents offices abroad through its R&D investment. 

Samsung is continuously strengthening its patent portfolio by developing its patent related labor forces.  Samsung Electronics’ patent professionals were 250 in 2005, and it raised its number to 450 in 2012.  Those professionals have been concentrated designing around patents and researching related litigations prior to its product development stages.  Recent professionals are more concerning the analysis of the patent statuses and strategies of relating technologies during the very first of product planning stage.
