Barnes & Nobles did not infringe 'gift card' technology

Barnes & Nobles Inc, the largest book retailer in US, was accused of using patented technology by Alexsam Inc, but Texas jury ruled that it didn’t infringe the patent. Alexsam had been seeking $72 million in damages.

According to Law360, Alexsam sued 7 companies claiming the companies infringed its two patents. The patents covers prepaid phone cards and electronic gift cards technology. The companies: Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Home Depot, J.C. Penney Co. Inc., Toys R. Us Inc., The Gap Inc. and McDonald's Corp.
