Apple Now Holds Patent For Rectangle, Rounded Corners Design

Apple finally gets the patent for "rectanble with rounded-corners" design. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued the patent (no. D670, 286) and now it’s officially Apple’s IP (Intellectual Property).

That means display device manufacturers could get sued by Apple for using manufacturing and selling devices that shape round-corner rectangle like an iPad. It sounds ridiculous since most tablets have rectangle design with rounded corners now.

It is not going to be happen in reality, but who knows? This is Apple we are talking about.

Apple has applied for this rectangle design patents since Dec 2010 and finally they get it. The problem is too wide and vague contents of patent, namely, the patent could be ruled not specific enough. We can easily imagine how many patent disputes will be happened in the future among device manufacturer like Samsung.

However, the patent war isn't finished yet. And, no one can expect how this can affect to a law suit with Samsung they are facing with. It remains to be seen that who is finally going to win this long lasting battles.
