It has been decided that Verizon will pay
TiVo $250 million to license its digital video recording technology and settle
a patent lawsuit with TiVo. The two companies, TiVo and Verizon, agreed to
dismiss all pending litigation and also these companies will be combined distribution
of streaming video services through Redbox. Also this deal includes a cross-licensing
arrangement that all patents which were involved in the pending dispute between
Verizon and TiVo.
The Associated Press said that Verizon will
pay TiVo $100 million in cash up front and will then pay the additional $150.4
million in quarterly payments until the summer of 2018. It will also be
required to pay licensing fees for “each of its DVR subscribers above a certain
level,” the AP said.
